The 2020 Forum on Cultivation and Development of Strategic Emerging Industries held in Shenzhen

On November 10th, 2020, the 2020 Forum on Cultivation and Development of Strategic Emerging Industries was held in Shenzhen, co-sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Shenzhen Municipal Peoples Government, China Development Bank and State Information Center(SIC). Academician Li Xiaohong, President of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Zhou Qingyu, Vice President of China Development Bank, and Chen Rugui, Mayor of Shenzhen Municipal Peoples Government, attended the forum and delivered speeches. Zhang Xueying, Vice President of SIC, delivered a keynote speech as the vice chairman of the forum, and announced the publishing of the 2021 Report on the Development of Chinas Emerging Industries of Strategic Importance, which was co-authored by SIC. The forum has four sections, respectively chaired by Ai Xuefeng, deputy mayor of Shenzhen Municipal Peoples Government, Academician Zhong Zhihua, vice president of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Academician Wu Hequan, former vice president of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Huang Luming, deputy director-general of Informatization and Industry Development Department, SIC.

 

 

On the forum, Zhang Xueying gave a keynote speech on the topic of Emerging Industries of Strategic Importance: the DevelopmentSituation and Outlook During the 14th Five-Year Plan Period. He pointed out that despite the economy suffering from the sudden outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the emerging industries of strategic importance, however, successfully realized a healthy and sustainable development, withstood negative factors at home and abroad, achieved a V-shaped reversal. It is expected that industrial development will turn normal in the fourth quarter, and the 13th Five-Year Plan shall be successfully concluded. Still, the emerging industries of strategic importance will face complex challenges and development opportunities during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, therefore, stronger policy support is necessary for the further growth of emerging industries.

 

A number of leading experts and scholars were invited to the Forum, including Academician Zhang Xingdong, Academician Lu Jun, Academician Xie Heping, Academician Ding Wenhua, Academician Lu Bingheng, Academician Tan Tianwei, Academician Liu Jingnan and Researcher Feng Jichun. The participants interchanged the main achievements in the development of the emerging industries of strategic importance at the present stage, discussed the opportunities and the room for improvement, and put forward policy recommendations on the major difficulties during industrial development. Leaders and representatives from local development and reform commissions, industry associations related to the emerging industries of strategic importance, financial institutions, technology companies and research institutes also attended the forum.
