President of SIC Visited Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Big Data Research Institute

Xu Qiang, President of SIC led a team and conducted a field study to Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Big Data Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as the Institute). Yu Shiyang, Director-General of Big Data Development Department, Li Junyuan, Deputy Director-General of Informatization and Industry Development Department and relevant staff from Public Technical Service Department participated in the trip.

At the meeting, Li Lin, Executive Vice President of the Institute, introduced the development of the main business. Guo Mingjun, Division Chief of Planning and Application Division of Big Data Development Department, also President of the Institute made a report on the work plans in the near future.

Xu Qiang affirmed the achievements made by the Institute since its establishment more than three years ago, and fully recognized the integrated interactive mechanism established by the Institute and Big Data Development Department. He hoped that the Institute will further give full play to the accumulated first-mover research advantages in the fields of data and computing power, the institutional advantages of being a private non-enterprise unit and the strong innovation resource advantages in Shenzhen, so as to build an high-end think tank featuring in data analysis, data mining, data elements and research on computing power network.

Xu made three requirements to the Institute for its future innovative development. First, improving its core research capability to better support the research of SIC in the fields of data, computing power and algorithms. Second, strengthening market-oriented awareness and improving the operation and management capabilities by expanding revenue channels, stabilizing revenue sources and increasing total revenue. Third, innovating the cooperation mechanism between the Institute and public institutions, and actively explore the integrated development model with combined efforts from public institutions, enterprises and the Institute, so as to jointly contribute to the construction of the digital Greater Bay Area.

Du Ping, former Executive Vice President of SIC and Honorary President of the institute and Wang Jiandong, Vice President of Price Supervision Center of NDRC and the first President of the Institute took part in the field study and attended the discussion.

The Institute was established by SIC and Shenzhen People’s Government in November, 2018. The competent department of the industry is Shenzhen Development and Reform Commission. With the research in data, computing power and algorithms, four types of collaboration mechanisms including central-local collaboration, industry-university-research institute collaboration, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao collaboration and all-factor collaboration, and a four-in-one business system which combines cutting-edge technology, policy research, project implementation and industrial incubation, the Institute devoted itself to build an international high-end think tank featuring in data analysis, data mining, data element and research on computing power network.
